Coping With Change

Whether we like it or not, change is inevitable.  Fifty years ago, there was perhaps less change in our lives and daily routine but change is happening fast these days and sometimes the challenge we face causes anxiety.

In the world of work, we might need to learn new skills or adopt different ways of working.  Traditional industries are replaced and we either adapt to new ones or are confronted with unemployment or redundancy.  We may have to change the town we live in or the country.

In our personal lives, we face unexpected bereavement, divorce, breakdown of relationships, sudden health problems, upward or downward movement in finances, new schools and teachers, friends moving away.

The one certainty in life is change.

Unwanted change can cause you to think like a “victim” and feel bitter.  I can help you to reframe your situation, search out the positives and embrace change for good.

“Our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change.” -Martin Luther King Jr.

Some people are reluctant to try new foods, go somewhere else on their holiday or meet new friends.  There is being content with your life and there is the realization that you are in a rut and only you making a change can bring welcome new elements to your life.

Fear of change does not just hold you back, it stops you truly living.

“Three frogs sat on the edge of a pond and one decided to jump. How many frogs were left?”

The answer is: three. Thinking is not doing. It is a useful precursor but thinking will only generate thoughts and thoughts will remain thoughts unless you do something.

Together we can look at the area(s) of change in your life or organization and suggest new coping strategies and attitudes at the deep unconscious level.

It may be beyond your control to change things back to how they were so now we need a positive way to move forward to accept the change(s) and let go of anything that is holding you back.
